Oakland’s Kaiser Center, a 28-story building which houses a number of business offices, was recently granted LEED gold status. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally recognized green building certification system. Oakland, California flooring contractors, architects and other builders erected the 914,648-square-foot Kaiser building in 1958, and it was last renovated in 2004. The structure received the certification – the second-highest level – for its implementation of green practices, including reduced water use, responsible disposal of used lighting components and hybrid parking. In addition to the many amenities and the elegant floor installation, the Oakland building also has a roof garden – one of the first of its kind built in the U.S.
