Four local fire houses are in need of renovations but the city says the cost is beyond what the budget can handle. According to the city’s fire chief, the stations – run by volunteers, are 50 to 70 years old and have outlived their capacity. But repairs are costly – Bridgeport, Connecticut flooring contractors estimated the total cost of repairs would be over $9 million dollars. But supporters of the fire station claim that the price pales in comparison to building projects in other towns. In addition, Bridgeport floor installation experts say the project would take only three to five years to complete, causing only a short-term strain on the budget.
